A significant data leak from Truecaller has exposed personal information of 273 million Indian users, originating from a breach in February 2019. The leaked data, found on a data leak forum, includes phone numbers, names, job titles, and social media handles, affecting major Indian telecom providers like Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone, Idea, and BSNL.
The exposure of such comprehensive data raises serious privacy and security concerns. Users are at increased risk of phishing, identity theft, spam, social engineering attacks, and compromised physical security due to leaked location details.
To mitigate the risks, users are advised to change passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and monitor accounts for suspicious activity. Employing a password manager is also recommended for enhanced security.
Since the breach, Truecaller has upgraded its security measures, including better encryption, advanced monitoring systems, and improved fraud detection.
