The Tor Project has announced the immediate availability of Tor Browser 14.5.1 across all supported platforms. This significant update focuses on bolstering user privacy and security by integrating crucial security patches backported from the newest Firefox releases. By incorporating these updates, the Tor Project reaffirms its dedication to providing a secure browsing experience for individuals worldwide, particularly those navigating environments with strict surveillance or censorship.

This latest version brings its stable release onto Firefox 128.10.0esr, ensuring users benefit from the most up-to-date security measures.

Notably, the update also includes vital security fixes originating from Firefox 138, effectively addressing potential vulnerabilities. For users on Windows, macOS, and Linux, Firefox has been updated to this secure version, and a user-friendly change now sets new tabs to the Tor Browser Home page by default, enhancing both usability and privacy from the outset. Additionally, a previous bug affecting the initial letterbox size with a 13px interface font has been resolved, providing a more consistent visual experience.

Android users also receive significant security enhancements, with GeckoView updated to 128.10.0esr, aligning mobile security standards with the desktop versions. Furthermore, the browser’s anti-censorship capabilities have been strengthened through a refresh of the anti-censorship.gpg keyring with the latest public key from contributor shelikhoo.

The build system has also been improved to streamline the update process by skipping entries for versions lacking incremental or full update files.

The Tor Project encourages users to actively participate in the browser’s ongoing development by submitting bug reports and suggestions. This collaborative approach is vital to the project’s mission of facilitating free and private internet access. Tor Browser 14.5.1 is available for download on the official Tor Browser website and distribution directory, and users are strongly advised to update immediately to take advantage of these important security improvements.
