The Gill Corporation Reports Data Breach

The Gill Corporation (TGC), a manufacturer of high-performance composite materials, reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized actor. The breach occurred when an unauthorized third party compromised TGC’s systems, encrypting many files and backup systems. Upon learning of the incident, TGC promptly initiated an investigation to assess the nature and impact of the breach, which revealed that personal data had been exposed to the unauthorized actor around June 23, 2024.

As the investigation unfolded, TGC determined that a range of sensitive personal information may have been accessed, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, bank account numbers, and previous W-2 forms. The company is reviewing the data to identify which individuals were specifically affected and to determine the extent of the exposure. TGC’s efforts are focused on providing transparency to those impacted and understanding the full scope of the breach.

In response to the data breach, TGC began mailing breach notification letters to affected individuals on September 16, 2024. These letters provided recipients with detailed information about the types of sensitive data that may have been exposed in the breach. To further mitigate the risks associated with the exposure, TGC is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected individuals. The company has made it a priority to support those impacted by the breach and ensure that they have access to necessary resources for identity protection.

TGC’s swift action in notifying individuals and offering credit monitoring services reflects the company’s commitment to managing the fallout from the breach responsibly. Although the investigation into the breach continues, TGC has emphasized its ongoing efforts to enhance the security of its systems and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. With global operations in France and the UK, in addition to its headquarters in El Monte, California, TGC is dedicated to maintaining the trust of its customers and stakeholders, particularly those whose personal information was impacted by the breach.
