Summit National Bank Suffers Data Incident

Summit National Bank has recently disclosed a data breach that could have compromised the personal information of its customers. On May 15, 2024, the bank detected suspicious activity within one of its email accounts. Further investigation, aided by third-party forensic specialists, revealed that an unauthorized actor had accessed the account between May 13 and May 16, 2024. This breach potentially exposed sensitive data, including customer names, Social Security numbers, contact details, and financial account information.

The breach was identified and addressed promptly, with Summit National Bank taking immediate steps to secure its systems and prevent further unauthorized access. The bank conducted a thorough review of the affected email account and assessed the scope of the information involved. The investigation confirmed that the compromised account contained data on both current and former bank customers dating back to 2009.

In response to the incident, Summit National Bank has implemented additional security measures and notified potentially affected individuals. The bank advises customers to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud by regularly reviewing their account statements and credit reports for any signs of suspicious activity. It also offers resources and guidance for those concerned about the impact of the breach.

For those with questions or requiring further assistance, Summit National Bank has established a dedicated support line, available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST, excluding major U.S. holidays. The bank has expressed its regret over any inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customer information with the highest level of security.
