Progress Telerik Report Server Security Flaw

A critical security flaw has been discovered in the Progress Telerik Report Server, designated as CVE-2024-4358, with a severity rating of 9.8. This vulnerability affects Telerik Report Server 2024 Q1 (10.0.24.305) and earlier versions, allowing unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication and gain access to restricted functionalities. Despite no reports of this vulnerability being exploited in the wild, it poses a significant risk, and users are strongly advised to review their server configurations and take immediate action.

The vulnerability was identified by Sina Kheirkhah of the Summoning Team, in collaboration with Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative. Exploiting this flaw could enable threat actors to spoof access to the server, potentially leading to unauthorized activities. Progress has addressed the issue by releasing a security advisory and fixing the vulnerability in the latest version of the software. To protect against potential exploitation, users must upgrade to Report Server 2024 Q2 (10.1.24.514) or later.

In the interim, it is recommended that users check their server’s list of local users. The presence of unexpected users might indicate an attempted exploitation. The only definitive solution to mitigate this vulnerability is to update to the latest version as soon as possible.

By staying vigilant and ensuring timely updates, organizations can safeguard their systems against this critical vulnerability. Keeping software up-to-date and monitoring for unusual activity are essential steps in maintaining cybersecurity resilience. Users of the Progress Telerik Report Server should prioritize these updates to prevent unauthorized access and maintain the integrity of their systems.
