Pro-Russian hackers have executed a significant cyber breach, targeting the Latvian Ministry of Interior. Reports from the Delfi website, citing ministry officials, confirm that three email accounts belonging to the ministry were successfully hacked.

Furthermore, this breach resulted in the exposure of sensitive email correspondence and internal documents from the Ministry of Interior, which were subsequently shared on various social media platforms.

These cyberattacks, believed to be supported by Russia, are part of a larger-scale offensive against Latvian government institutions, with the attacks commencing on Monday.

Additionally, the severity of the breach became evident as numerous internal Ministry of Interior documents and email exchanges surfaced on various Telegram communication channels. The exposure of this confidential information has raised concerns about national security and the potential implications of such a breach.

At the same time, the Latvian Ministry of Interior has underlined its commitment to enhancing security measures and has initiated an investigation into the incident, aiming to determine the full extent of the breach and the hackers’ motives.

Finally, this incident underscores the persistent threat of cyberattacks in the geopolitical landscape, with state-sponsored hackers targeting government institutions. The breach serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust cybersecurity measures and international cooperation to address cyber threats effectively.
