Minute Women Home Care Reports Data Breach

Minute Women, a senior home care company based in Lexington, Massachusetts, recently reported a data breach that potentially compromised sensitive personal and health information. The breach occurred after a company laptop was infected with malware on July 12, 2024. Upon discovering the issue, Minute Women immediately launched an investigation to determine the scope and impact of the incident. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized individual had potentially accessed sensitive personal data stored by the company’s payroll provider.

The compromised information varies depending on the affected individual but may include personal details such as names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and bank account information. Minute Women worked diligently to assess the scope of the data exposure and identified which individuals were impacted. Although no indication of misuse has been reported, the company took immediate steps to notify those affected, ensuring they were aware of the incident and could take appropriate actions.

On September 18, 2024, Minute Women began mailing data breach notification letters to the impacted individuals. In the letters, the company outlined the types of information that may have been exposed and offered 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to help individuals protect their personal data. These services were offered to ensure that affected individuals could monitor their credit files for any suspicious activity or signs of identity theft.

As part of its commitment to safeguarding personal data, Minute Women is reviewing its security practices and working to improve its data protection measures. The company has emphasized that protecting the privacy and security of sensitive information is a top priority, and it continues to collaborate with forensic experts to enhance its network defenses. In the meantime, Minute Women is encouraging individuals who received the breach notification to take advantage of the provided credit monitoring services and stay vigilant against potential identity theft.
