MCG Health has reached an $8.8 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit related to a data breach that occurred in February 2020. The breach compromised sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, medical details, and contact data. Although MCG Health has not admitted to any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement to address the claims made in the lawsuit.
Under the settlement terms, affected individuals can receive reimbursement for ordinary expenses related to the breach, up to $1,500, and compensation for extraordinary losses, such as those resulting from fraud or identity theft, up to $10,000. Those without documented losses have the option to claim an alternative cash payment, with the amount varying depending on the total number of claims submitted.
To qualify for the settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by September 30, 2024. The deadline for excluding oneself from the settlement or objecting to its terms is August 29, 2024, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for September 13, 2024.
MCG Health is a health care software solutions company that has been scrutinized for its cybersecurity practices. The settlement aims to compensate those impacted by the breach while also addressing concerns about the company’s data protection measures.
