Ivanti Cloud has recently addressed a critical vulnerability in its Cloud Services Appliance (CSA) version 4.6, tracked as CVE-2024-8190. This vulnerability, an OS command injection flaw, could allow an authenticated attacker with administrative privileges to execute remote code. The flaw was identified in versions of CSA 4.6 prior to Patch 519, and Ivanti has released a fix for it. However, since CSA 4.6 is now at the end of its life, the vendor strongly recommends upgrading to the currently supported CSA 5.0, which is not affected by this vulnerability. While a patch for 4.6 has been issued, the product no longer receives updates for OS or third-party libraries, making the upgrade to CSA 5.0 critical for continued support.
On September 13, 2024, Ivanti confirmed that exploitation of this vulnerability had begun in the wild shortly after the public disclosure. The exploitation affects a limited number of customers, and Ivanti advised users to review their CSA systems for signs of compromise. The vulnerability, with a CVSS score of 7.2, requires administrative access to exploit, making it likely that the flaw is being used in conjunction with other vulnerabilities or against poorly secured devices. Ivanti also highlighted the reduced risk of exploitation for CSA systems that follow their recommended security configurations, such as dual-homing with eth0 as an internal network.
Ivanti further emphasized that the affected versions, including CSA 4.6 with Patch 518, have reached end-of-life status and will not receive additional fixes. The company clarified that customers running CSA 5.0, the latest version, are not impacted by CVE-2024-8190. To mitigate the risk of exploitation, Ivanti strongly advises customers to upgrade to CSA 5.0 as soon as possible. Additionally, the company provided steps for users to check their systems for any signs of compromise, including reviewing administrative user activity and checking for anomalies in broker logs or EDR alerts.
While this vulnerability has only been confirmed in a small number of cases, Ivanti continues to monitor the situation and has provided a security advisory on their forums. Customers using CSA 4.6 are encouraged to contact Ivanti support for further assistance in upgrading their systems. With the rising threat of exploitation, securing CSA environments has become a top priority for Ivanti, and the company has committed to helping its customers transition to a more secure version of the appliance.
