Hackers Wipe Data at Orient Systems

Ukrainian activists from the BO_Team cyber community, working with specialists from Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, recently launched a cyberattack against Russian companies that support the war effort. Among the targeted companies was Orient Systems, a developer and supplier of navigation equipment used by Russian military manufacturers, including those producing drones.

In the attack, all data on eight servers belonging to Orient Systems was destroyed. This action is part of a broader campaign aimed at disrupting Russian support for the invasion of Ukraine. The cyber operation not only affected Orient Systems but also saw the deletion of over 100 terabytes of data from another company, OrbitSoft, which supports the Russian military.

Additionally, 19 servers of internet service providers in Nizhny Novgorod were targeted, resulting in the erasure of all data and warnings sent to subscribers about retribution for Russia’s actions. This attack highlights the ongoing cyber warfare between Ukraine and Russia, with Ukrainian hackers focusing on critical infrastructure and support systems for the Russian military.

The cyberattacks by Ukrainian groups represent a strategic effort to undermine Russian military capabilities and disrupt operations supporting the invasion. The attacks on Orient Systems and other targets reflect a coordinated campaign to leverage cyber tools in the conflict, aiming to weaken Russia’s technological and military assets.
