United of Omaha Reports Data Breach Alert

United of Omaha Life Insurance Company in Nebraska recently reported a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The breach involved unauthorized access to sensitive personal and protected health information within the company’s systems. The suspicious activity was first detected on April 23, 2024, in one of the employee’s email accounts, prompting an immediate investigation.

The investigation revealed that the unauthorized access occurred between April 21 and April 23, 2024. A comprehensive review, completed on June 28, 2024, determined that various types of sensitive information, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, driver’s license numbers, employment details, health information, and health insurance policy numbers, were potentially exposed. The impact of the breach varied for each individual affected.

Following the review, United of Omaha began mailing data breach notification letters to those impacted. The notification included details about the specific types of sensitive information exposed and offered complimentary credit monitoring services to help protect against identity theft and fraud. The company is committed to assisting affected individuals in managing potential risks arising from the breach.

United of Omaha is a subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, a major insurance and financial services provider based in California. Established in 1909, United of Omaha offers a range of insurance products, including life insurance and fixed annuities.
