Workaround for Office 365 Sign-In Error

Microsoft has addressed a common issue affecting Microsoft 365 users, providing a workaround for ‘Something Went Wrong [1001]’ sign-in errors that have been rendering desktop applications unusable.

Furthermore, this issue has impacted users of Microsoft 365 Apps for business, Microsoft 365, and Office apps on iOS and Android. When attempting to log in to Microsoft 365 desktop applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, users have been encountering error messages. The problem appears to be related to Single Sign-On (SSO) with Office 365 apps, with users experiencing authentication pop-up errors that prevent successful sign-ins.

Although some of these errors might arise when security software blocks Web Account Manager (WAM) plug-ins from running, Microsoft is also investigating the issue as a separate concern by analyzing logs from affected users. The company has encouraged affected customers to open support tickets through the M365 Admin Portal and attach Microsoft Office Authentication/Identity Diagnostic (MSOAID) logs to expedite the investigation process.

At the same time, to address the issue in the meantime, Microsoft recommends using alternative methods to access Microsoft 365 apps, such as the Outlook Web App (OWA) and Office web applications or mobile applications. Additional guidance for resolving Office app authentication issues when connecting to Microsoft 365 services is available on Microsoft’s support website.

This proactive response from Microsoft aims to alleviate the disruptions caused by the sign-in errors, ensuring users can continue working with Microsoft 365 applications without extended downtime or inconvenience.
