On March 1, 2024, Witherspoon Brajcich McPhee, PLLC, detected suspicious activity within its network, prompting immediate action to secure its systems. The firm swiftly initiated a comprehensive investigation with the help of external computer forensic specialists to determine the nature and extent of the breach. Upon investigation, it was revealed that an unknown actor had intermittent access to certain systems between January 5 and March 1, 2024, leading to unauthorized viewing and potentially taking sensitive data. Following this discovery, WBM conducted an extensive review of the compromised data to ascertain what information might have been at risk.

The investigation findings indicated that personal information could have been accessed by the unauthorized actor, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account details. WBM has taken these findings seriously, recognizing the importance of safeguarding client information and privacy. As part of their response, the firm has committed to enhancing its security protocols to prevent future breaches and ensure the integrity of its data management practices.

In addition to notifying federal law enforcement, Witherspoon Brajcich McPhee has proactively communicated with affected individuals by offering them 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Epiq. They are providing detailed instructions on how to enroll in these services, emphasizing their commitment to protecting their clients’ personal information and supporting them in monitoring their accounts for any suspicious activities. This move is part of a broader effort to reassure clients and mitigate potential risks associated with the breach.

The firm is also encouraging clients to remain vigilant against identity theft by reviewing their account statements and regularly monitoring their free credit reports. WBM urges individuals to report any unusual activity to law enforcement promptly. The firm has expressed regret over the incident, reinforcing its dedication to maintaining strong relationships with clients and ensuring that robust protective measures are in place moving forward. For additional support, affected individuals can contact WBM directly during business hours for any concerns or inquiries related to the situation.
