Windows Updates Cause Crashes

The March 2024 Windows Server updates have propagated significant disruptions within domain controller systems, manifesting as escalating LSASS process memory leaks leading to system crashes. Widespread administrator reports highlight the adverse effects of installing the KB5035855 and KB5035857 updates, raising alarms about widespread LSASS memory usage issues culminating in server outages. Microsoft recommends a temporary mitigation strategy involving the uninstallation of the problematic updates until an official response and resolution are established.

Administrators are facing critical challenges following the installation of March 2024 Windows Server updates, with reports of domain controller crashes attributed to a memory leak in the LSASS process. The specific culprits, KB5035855 and KB5035857 updates, have raised substantial concerns among administrators due to the resulting LSASS memory usage escalation leading to system-wide crashes. Microsoft’s temporary guidance advises administrators to uninstall the updates, with official communication anticipated to follow.
