Windows 10 Update KB5037849

Microsoft has rolled out the optional KB5037849 Preview cumulative update for Windows 10 22H2, which introduces nine fixes and changes. This update is primarily a maintenance release aimed at resolving various bugs that have been causing crashes and network connection issues. Notably, it also brings two new enterprise features and enhancements to Chinese fonts and input methods. Unlike the mandatory Patch Tuesday updates, this preview update does not include security updates and is intended for testing upcoming fixes and features.

Among the key fixes, the update addresses an issue where a hidden window with no content appears when sharing your screen using certain applications. It also resolves a problem with the Share button on USB controllers, which previously did not work with the Game Bar. Users can install this update by navigating to the Windows Update settings and manually checking for updates. Once installed, the system will be updated to build 19045.4474.

Microsoft has acknowledged four known issues with this update. These include problems with Copilot causing icons to switch between multiple monitors and not being supported when the taskbar is vertical, issues with Microsoft Connected Cache (MCC) node discovery using DHCP Option 235, and errors (0x80070520) when changing account profile pictures. Detailed instructions for resolving these issues and a full list of fixes are available in the KB5037849 support bulletin.

For users eager to try out these new features and fixes ahead of the next Patch Tuesday, the KB5037849 update can also be manually downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
