Vernon Company in Iowa Reports Data Breach

The Vernon Company has recently issued a notification regarding a data exposure incident involving their third-party vendor, QAD Inc. On June 10, 2024, QAD informed Vernon Company that certain data stored on its servers had been copied by an unauthorized party. Vernon Company, which utilizes QAD’s platforms for managing promotional product sales, promptly initiated a review to assess the scope and impact of the data breach.

The detailed investigation, concluded on June 21, 2024, confirmed that the compromised data included sensitive information such as names, credit card numbers, and CVV codes. Although Vernon Company’s internal systems were not affected, the incident highlights significant concerns regarding data security. The company has since collaborated with QAD to understand the breach’s full extent and to implement necessary measures to address the situation and protect those impacted.

In response to the breach, Vernon Company is offering affected individuals twelve months of free credit monitoring services through TransUnion. This precautionary step is designed to help detect and prevent identity theft and fraudulent activity. Individuals are encouraged to follow the provided instructions to activate these services, as Vernon Company cannot enroll them on their behalf due to privacy restrictions.

To mitigate the risk of identity theft and financial fraud, Vernon Company advises individuals to regularly review their financial statements and monitor their credit reports for any suspicious activity. Additionally, any unauthorized charges should be reported to the respective card issuer immediately. The company is also conducting a thorough review of its procedures and third-party vendor relationships to bolster its data security measures and prevent similar incidents in the future.
