Venn Software Security for Remote Work

Venn Software, a New York-based startup, has secured $29 million in Series A funding to develop a Mobile Device Management (MDM)-like solution tailored for laptops.

Led by NewSpring, the funding aims to enable Venn to create an MDM solution for laptops, offering a cost-effective alternative to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

The company introduces a product called Secure Enclave, which is installed on remote employee laptops (Windows or macOS) to ensure encrypted data and managed access.

This approach allows work applications to run locally within the enclave, isolating and protecting business activity from any personal use on the same computer.

Venn anticipates the increasing permanence of remote work and a distributed workforce, emphasizing the need for innovative data management solutions amid the blurring lines of personal and business time. Venn’s Secure Enclave is designed to protect company data without exerting control over the entire device.

The startup and its investors foresee the continued prevalence of remote work, driven by factors such as contractors, gig workers, and offshore employees. Venn argues against traditional solutions like VDI, citing their costliness and user frustration due to latency and slowness.

Instead, Venn positions itself as the pioneer in purpose-built technology for Secure Bring Your Own Personal Computer (BYO-PC). David Matalon, co-founder and CEO at Venn, emphasizes the company’s contribution in enabling remote work security on any Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or unmanaged computer, eliminating the need for shipping laptops or relying on complex VDI setups while ensuring regulatory compliance.
