Tile Tracker Hack Exposes Customer Data

A recent breach in the systems behind Tile device trackers resulted in the unauthorized access and theft of customer data, including names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers. The hacker exploited a tool designed for responding to law enforcement requests regarding Tile trackers, gaining access to sensitive information. Although the stolen data did not include precise Tile location data, the breach raises concerns about privacy and data security.

Life360, the parent company of Tile, issued a statement acknowledging the breach, with CEO Chris Hulls confirming the incident and the compromised data, which also included Tile tracker IDs. Hulls revealed that the hacker attempted to extort Life360 and that the company promptly reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. Despite Hulls’ assurance that “very little” data was accessed, the extent of the breach and its impact on affected customers remain uncertain.

Responding to inquiries, Life360 representatives stated that the company is collaborating with law enforcement authorities in the investigation. However, there is no indication yet whether affected customers will be notified about the breach. Screenshots provided by the hacker to 404 Media indicate unauthorized access to internal tools, including those used for transferring ownership of Tile trackers, adding admin accounts, and sending messages to Tile users. As the investigation unfolds, concerns persist about the security of customer data and the potential ramifications of the breach on Tile users’ privacy.
