Thailand’s National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) and Google Cloud have launched a strategic collaboration to enhance the nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure. This initiative, announced during the Safer Songkran event, focuses on improving resilience against rising cyber threats, particularly as Thailand’s digital transformation accelerates. The partnership builds on the existing collaboration between the Thai government and Google, which focuses on enhancing online security for citizens and government entities.
The collaboration includes critical measures such as threat intelligence sharing and developing advanced incident response capabilities. Google Cloud Cybershield, an AI-powered platform, will aid in monitoring security threats across public sector entities. With Google Threat Intelligence, Mandiant’s threat insights, and VirusTotal’s database, the government will gain valuable tools to counter cybercriminal and state-sponsored attacks. Additionally, Mandiant consultants will train Thailand’s public sector professionals in digital forensics and malware analysis.
As part of this initiative, Google Play Protect’s anti-scam feature, launched in 2024, has already blocked over 6.6 million high-risk app installations in Thailand.
To further protect users, new security measures have been introduced to mitigate social engineering attacks, which include preventing scammers from disabling security features during phone calls. This continues Google’s efforts to protect Thai citizens from increasing cyber threats and scams targeting mobile users.
This collaboration highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity as Thailand’s digital economy is expected to grow significantly, reaching US$100 billion by 2030.
The government, alongside Google Cloud, is committed to enhancing national security while empowering citizens with essential cybersecurity tools and knowledge. By integrating advanced technology and fostering public-private collaboration, Thailand is positioning itself as a leader in cybersecurity in the Asia-Pacific region.
