Tobin, Carberry, O’Malley, Riley & Selinger, P.C. (TCORS) has announced a data security incident potentially affecting protected health information (PHI) for individuals associated with its clients. The law firm, which provides financial recovery services for healthcare clients, is actively working to identify and notify those impacted by the breach.
On November 30, 2023, TCORS detected suspicious activity on its systems, prompting an immediate investigation and the engagement of independent computer forensic experts. The investigation, completed in January 2024, revealed that an unauthorized individual accessed TCORS’ systems for a limited period, potentially compromising some personal information. However, there is currently no evidence suggesting misuse of the affected data.
In response to the breach, TCORS has implemented several security measures, including changing all passwords and deploying advanced endpoint detection and monitoring software. The firm is in the process of contacting affected individuals and will send out letters containing details about the incident, the steps taken in response, and available resources.
For those impacted whose Social Security numbers were involved, TCORS will provide free credit monitoring and identity restoration services. The firm is committed to enhancing its security measures to prevent future incidents and is working diligently to support those affected by the breach.
