On August 28, 2024, Strive Medical, officially known as Strive HoldCo, LLC, filed a notice of a data breach with the Attorney General of California after discovering that an unauthorized party gained access to an employee’s email account. This breach allowed the unauthorized party to access consumers’ sensitive information, including names, dates of birth, medical information, provider names, medical record numbers, Medicaid or Medicare ID numbers, prescription details, and health insurance information. After completing an internal investigation, Strive Medical began sending data breach notification letters to affected individuals, informing them of the breach and the potential exposure of their personal data.

The breach was first detected on January 31, 2024, when Strive identified suspicious activity in an employee’s email account. Upon discovery, the company immediately secured its network and worked with external data security experts to investigate the scope of the incident. Their investigation confirmed that the email account had been accessed by an unauthorized party between January 29 and January 31, 2024. Emails and attachments containing confidential consumer information were among the data accessed by the unauthorized actor during this time.

Following the investigation, Strive Medical conducted a thorough review of the compromised files to determine what specific information had been accessed and which consumers were affected. The type of information exposed varies depending on the individual, but may include names, medical records, prescription details, and Medicare or Medicaid ID numbers. Strive Medical took immediate steps to notify all impacted individuals, sending out formal data breach letters on August 28, 2024, outlining the nature of the breach and providing guidance on how to protect themselves.

Strive HoldCo, LLC, headquartered in Irving, Texas, is a medical supplies company that manufactures urological, wound care, ostomy, and incontinence products for consumers across the United States. The company operates more than 15 distribution centers nationwide, including locations in Birmingham, Alabama, Wichita, Kansas, and Joliet, Illinois. With over 72 employees and approximately $15 million in annual revenue, Strive Medical continues to play a significant role in the medical supplies industry while addressing the security challenges posed by the recent data breach.
