Sterling Corporation hit By Data Breach

Sterling Corporation has notified individuals of a data security incident that may have compromised their personal information, specifically names and Social Security numbers. The breach was first identified on July 18, 2024, when suspicious activity disrupted access to certain parts of Sterling’s cyber network. In response to this alarming discovery, the company immediately took systems offline and engaged cybersecurity experts to secure the network and investigate the incident thoroughly. On September 12, 2024, Sterling confirmed that personal information might have been involved in the breach, although they have yet to find evidence of any data misuse.

To address the situation and minimize risks for affected individuals, Sterling Corporation is offering complimentary identity theft protection services through IDX, a ZeroFox Company, for a duration of one or two years. These services include credit monitoring, CyberScan monitoring, a $1 million insurance reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery assistance. The company is committed to helping its customers navigate the potential impacts of the breach and has provided clear instructions on how to enroll in these protective services.

Sterling urges all individuals whose information may have been affected to take advantage of the identity protection services. To enroll, individuals can scan a QR code included in the notification letter or visit the designated IDX website using an enrollment code provided in the communication. The deadline for enrollment in these complimentary services is January 7, 2025. It is crucial for individuals to act promptly, especially those over the age of 18 with established credit in the United States, as they will benefit from the services offered.

In addition to the identity protection services, Sterling Corporation encourages individuals to follow best practices for protecting their personal information. This includes monitoring financial accounts, using strong, unique passwords, and being cautious of unsolicited communications that may seek personal data. Sterling emphasizes its dedication to safeguarding personal information and expresses regret for any concern or inconvenience this incident may have caused to affected individuals. The company is taking this event seriously and continues to work diligently to enhance its security measures.
