Startup Raises $43M to Combat AI Threats

Adaptive Security, a startup focused on combating AI-driven threats, has raised $43 million in funding. This funding, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and the OpenAI Startup Fund, includes equity from Abstract Ventures, Eniac Ventures, and others. Adaptive’s goal is to tackle the growing threat of deepfake social engineering and AI-powered attacks through AI-driven simulations. By replicating real-world attack scenarios, it aims to help businesses improve their internal human defenses against sophisticated impersonation attacks.

The startup was founded by serial entrepreneurs Brian Long and Andrew Jones, who have a history of successful exits with TapCommerce and Attentive. Their new venture focuses on providing enterprises with a security platform capable of simulating AI-generated deepfake attacks. These simulated attacks involve AI-created personas across voice, SMS, and email, designed to test employees’ ability to identify social engineering threats. The platform’s ultimate goal is to enhance employee training and boost corporate resilience against these advanced threats.

The Adaptive Security platform goes beyond traditional security awareness programs by offering real-time threat triage and personalized responses.

When an employee encounters a suspicious message, the system analyzes it instantly, scores the risk, and helps security teams respond swiftly. If an employee falls for a simulated deepfake attack, the system flags the risk and delivers personalized training to address weaknesses. This unique approach aims to strengthen organizational defenses and reduce the likelihood of successful attacks.

Additionally, Adaptive’s platform offers generative AI tools for businesses to create tailored content quickly. This content can include text, visuals, and videos related to any topic or internal policy, empowering businesses to produce security-related training materials on demand. With a focus on AI-powered deepfake simulations, real-time risk assessment, and next-generation training, Adaptive Security is positioning itself as a key player in the battle against AI-driven threats.
