Spirit Technologies, listed on the ASX, has successfully acquired Forensic IT, a Melbourne-based company specializing in incident response and digital forensics services, for $7.6 million in cash and shares. This acquisition, set to be finalized in October, aims to bolster Spirit’s defensive cybersecurity capabilities through its cyber division, Infotrust. It follows previous mergers with Intalock in 2020 and Infotrust earlier this year, which combined various cybersecurity practices with a state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC).
The integration of Forensic IT will enhance Infotrust’s existing services by adding advanced incident response capabilities. This will include data recovery and expert witness testimony, significantly increasing the effectiveness of Spirit’s cybersecurity offerings. The deal will also expand the combined team’s expertise, bringing the total number of cybersecurity professionals to 115.
Julian Challingsworth, Managing Director of Spirit Group, expressed that this acquisition aligns perfectly with their strategy to enhance service offerings and provide clients with comprehensive cybersecurity solutions. He emphasized the importance of delivering robust, end-to-end services, especially for mid to enterprise-level businesses in the private and public sectors.
Luke McCarthy, owner of Forensic IT, noted that the acquisition highlights the expertise and dedication of his team. The integration of Forensic IT’s capabilities is expected to strengthen Spirit Technologies’ position in the cybersecurity market, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, as they continue to enhance their service offerings for their growing client base.
