Simpson Manufacturing Cyberattack Disruption

October 12, 2023

in Incidents

Simpson Manufacturing, a prominent American producer of building and structural materials, has revealed a significant cybersecurity incident that has disrupted its operations. The company detected IT issues and application outages on a recent Tuesday, which were swiftly attributed to a cyberattack.

Furthermore, in response, Simpson Manufacturing took affected systems offline to contain the threat. The ongoing remediation process is expected to lead to extended disruptions, a common outcome of complex ransomware attacks that involve data encryption and the potential for data theft.

Additionally, Simpson Manufacturing, known for being a leader in the industry, raises concerns about the nature and extent of the data exposure resulting from the cyberattack. The firm, with a significant presence in North America, operates seven laboratories for testing new designs and materials and holds over two thousand patents and trademarks, making the potential theft of proprietary information a significant concern.

At the same time, the specific nature of the cybersecurity incident has not yet been determined, and no ransomware groups have claimed responsibility. Simpson Manufacturing has engaged third-party experts to assist in the investigation and recovery processes, which are currently in their initial stages.

Despite the cyberattack and the suspension of business operations, there has been no immediate negative impact on the company’s stock trading performance. As the situation unfolds, additional information about the incident’s nature and potential data exposure is eagerly awaited, as the company navigates the challenges posed by this significant cybersecurity event.
