Sharjah Launches Cyber Defense Center

On August 13, 2024, the Sharjah Finance Department (SFD) in the UAE officially launched its new Cyber Defense Center, marking a significant advancement in the region’s cybersecurity infrastructure. The inauguration, led by Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, emphasized the center’s role in bolstering digital security amid escalating cyber threats. The center, operational in a trial capacity since 2023, is designed to provide comprehensive cyber defense through real-time threat monitoring, swift incident response, and adherence to global best practices.

The Cyber Defense Center’s core mission is to safeguard sensitive information and secure electronic systems vital to Sharjah’s governmental operations. With advanced technology and a skilled team, the center supports various SFD departments and affiliated offices, ensuring robust cyber defense. Additionally, the center will serve as a hub for cybersecurity education, focusing on developing national talent and fostering a unified security culture in the UAE.

Sheikh Rashid emphasized the importance of cybersecurity education and training at the center, which will focus on educating individuals and institutions about best practices and protecting their data from online threats. The center’s educational initiatives are seen as crucial to building national capacity and creating a secure digital environment in Sharjah.

Saqr Al Ali, Director of the Information Security Office at SFD, highlighted the growing frequency of cyberattacks and the need for evolving cybersecurity strategies to match the pace of digital transformation. The center’s services include network monitoring, threat detection, technical consultations, and specialized training. By integrating cutting-edge threat intelligence and a strategic focus on education, the Cyber Defense Center is set to significantly enhance Sharjah’s cyber resilience and protect its digital infrastructure from emerging threats.
