Science History Institute Faces Ransomware

The NoEscape ransomware group has targeted the Science History Institute, a repository of scientific developments and histories, listing it on its dark web portal. The cybercriminals claim to have successfully obtained 22 GB of data from the institution’s museum and library based in Philadelphia. Despite reaching out for official details on the alleged breach, The Cyber Express Team has not received a response from the Science History Institute. A snapshot from the ransomware group’s post indicates an impending data leak update, heightening concerns over potential identity theft and echoing recent threats like the 23andme data breach.

The Science History Institute, dedicated to sharing stories of scientific advancements, now faces the imminent threat of a data breach by the NoEscape ransomware group. The institution’s museum and library, integral to preserving scientific histories, are allegedly compromised, raising questions about the security of sensitive data. Despite efforts to gather more information on the breach, an official response from the Science History Institute is yet to be received by The Cyber Express Team. The ransomware group’s claim of obtaining 22 GB of data adds urgency to the situation, with the looming countdown for the next update amplifying concerns. As the Science History Institute grapples with the potential data breach, the NoEscape ransomware group continues to exploit vulnerabilities, listing the institution on its dark web portal.

The ominous countdown on the portal suggests an impending update regarding the leaked information. This cyber threat not only jeopardizes the institute’s valuable data but also contributes to the growing trend of ransomware groups targeting institutions and organizations, posing significant risks to data security and privacy. The Science History Institute’s situation mirrors broader concerns over the security of databases containing individuals’ identities. The mention of the recent 23andme data breach, which exposed genetic details of millions, further underscores the increasing threat of identity theft. With cybercriminals actively targeting sensitive information, institutions and individuals alike face a heightened need for robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard against data breaches and potential exploitation by ransomware groups like NoEscape.
