Rumpke Waste Management Hit by Cyber Attack

Rumpke Waste Management has recently disclosed that it has fallen victim to a cybersecurity incident, raising alarms among its customers and employees alike. While specific details regarding the nature and extent of the attack remain limited, the company has initiated an investigation to understand the implications and the potential impact on its operations. In the meantime, Rumpke has taken steps to reassure its clientele that their personal information and payment processing systems have not been compromised. Furthermore, they have confirmed that essential services, including trash and recycling collection, will continue uninterrupted, thus maintaining their commitment to customer service amid the ongoing investigation.

In a public statement, Rumpke emphasized the paramount importance of information security for both its workforce and the individuals it serves. The company’s spokesperson reassured customers, stating, “At this time, we do not believe any customer payment information or payment processing systems have been impacted.” This declaration is a crucial part of Rumpke’s strategy to maintain transparency while managing the situation and prioritizing the safety and confidentiality of its customers’ sensitive data.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Rumpke’s website and social media accounts reported a temporary disruption in their customer service phone lines, which may or may not be related to the cyber incident. Customers were informed that the lines would be back in operation shortly, and by approximately 3 p.m. on October 25, the company confirmed that the issues had been resolved, ensuring that clients could reach out for support without delay. This quick response underscores Rumpke’s dedication to maintaining open communication channels during a potentially stressful time for their customers.

In response to the attack, Rumpke has engaged with cybersecurity forensics experts to investigate the breach thoroughly and to develop a comprehensive understanding of how the incident occurred. The company is focused on implementing enhanced security measures to prevent future occurrences, reflecting a proactive stance in safeguarding their systems. Rumpke has also pledged to provide appropriate notifications and resources to any individuals who may be affected by the incident, highlighting their commitment to customer transparency and support. Headquartered in Colerain Township, Rumpke operates 14 landfills and 12 recycling facilities across five states and employs approximately 4,000 individuals. As the investigation unfolds, the company remains focused on ensuring the safety and security of its operations while reinforcing trust among its customer base in the face of this cybersecurity challenge.
