Rome’s municipal waste management company, Ama, recently became the target of a cyberattack on its IT systems. The company immediately took action to address the situation and is actively working with relevant institutional authorities, including the postal police and the National Cyber Security Agency. The investigation into the origin of the attack is ongoing, with the goal of identifying the perpetrators and understanding the extent of the damage.

Ama reassured the public that its operational systems are still running as expected, but some online services are currently being restored.

The company’s primary objective is to minimize any disruption to waste management services for residents. While the attack caused some temporary difficulties, it has not yet led to major service outages, and Ama is prioritizing the swift recovery of its online services to restore normal operations.

As of this morning, the company’s institutional website was still unreachable, indicating that efforts to secure and restore affected systems are underway. Ama remains committed to ensuring that services continue without significant inconvenience to the public.

It is working diligently to protect its infrastructure while ensuring that critical services such as waste collection are not impacted.

The cyberattack serves as a reminder of the increasing vulnerability of municipal services to digital threats. Ama is fully cooperating with authorities to uncover the details of the breach and prevent future incidents. The company’s quick response highlights the importance of cybersecurity preparedness for essential public services in safeguarding both operations and user trust.
