River Delta School District Reports Breach

River Delta Unified School District recently reported a data security event that was detected on December 20, 2023. The district discovered suspicious activity on its network, which prompted immediate action to secure its systems and restore normal functionality. A thorough investigation was launched, with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts, to understand the full scope of the incident. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems and copied files containing personal information.

The district conducted a detailed review of the files to determine the specific information involved and who it related to. The review concluded that the personal information of certain individuals, including their names and other details, was present in the affected files. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the information has been misused in any way as a result of the breach. River Delta acted quickly to identify potentially affected individuals and began notifying them of the event.

To further protect its network and the personal information it handles, River Delta has taken several measures in response to the incident. These include notifying the FBI, reviewing and strengthening its cybersecurity policies, and implementing additional network security measures. Although no misuse of personal data has been detected, the district is offering affected individuals free access to credit monitoring services through Equifax Credit Watch Gold as an added precaution. The district has provided instructions for enrolling in these services to help protect individuals’ personal information.

River Delta has also encouraged individuals to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud by regularly reviewing their account statements and monitoring their free credit reports. The district outlined additional steps individuals can take to protect themselves, such as enrolling in credit monitoring services and using identity restoration support if necessary. For any questions regarding the incident or the services offered, River Delta has established a dedicated assistance line to support those affected.
