In a pivotal move to enhance cybersecurity within Indian Railways, RailTel has announced a strategic partnership with Cylus, a leading cybersecurity firm specializing in rail industry solutions. This collaboration, unveiled on August 2, 2024, aims to bolster the cybersecurity framework of Indian Railways, addressing the increasing need for robust protection across its extensive infrastructure. RailTel, a key public sector enterprise in telecommunications and ICT, will leverage Cylus’ expertise to strengthen the security of critical railway systems, including signaling, trackside operations, onboard systems, and SCADA networks.
As part of this partnership, RailTel will integrate Cylus’ advanced technology, CylusOne, into its existing systems. This integration will focus on protecting essential components of the railway network, such as signaling and control systems, which are crucial for the safe and reliable operation of the rail network. CylusOne’s sophisticated cyber defense solutions are expected to significantly enhance the security of Indian Railways, making it better equipped to handle emerging cyber threats.
Cylus will also collaborate with RailTel’s Digital Service Partner, Rail Edutech Pvt Ltd, to provide specialized cybersecurity training programs. These programs are designed to elevate the cybersecurity skills of railway personnel, contributing to a more secure and resilient infrastructure. By offering comprehensive training and support, Cylus aims to bolster the overall capabilities of the railway sector in managing and mitigating cyber risks.
Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting that cybersecurity is a top priority as Indian Railways undergoes major technological upgrades. Cylus’ Director for Asia Pacific, Ashish Upadhyay, echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm about deploying advanced cybersecurity solutions and enhancing the railway personnel’s capabilities.
