Presbyterian Healthcare Services Settlement

Presbyterian Healthcare Services has taken a significant stride towards resolving a class action lawsuit stemming from a 2019 data breach, as it reaches a settlement agreement. This legal action emerged from allegations that the company failed to adequately safeguard patients’ information during the breach incident. While not admitting wrongdoing, Presbyterian Healthcare Services has committed to an undisclosed settlement amount to compensate affected individuals.

The resolution extends benefits to recipients of notifications regarding the breach detected in June 2019. Plaintiffs contend that hackers compromised their personal and health data during the incident, emphasizing the potential role of improved cybersecurity measures in preventing such breaches.

Under the terms of the settlement, various reimbursements are offered to individuals impacted by the breach. These encompass compensation for communication fees, credit-related expenses, and reimbursement for up to three hours of downtime at a rate of $15 per hour.

Moreover, students encountering documented exceptional costs, such as fraud or identity theft, have the option to seek reimbursement of up to $5,000. Additionally, affected individuals are entitled to one year of complimentary credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks. This service includes comprehensive monitoring features and reimbursement insurance of up to $1 million. The exclusion and objection period for the settlement recently concluded, with a final approval hearing anticipated soon. Class members are required to submit valid claim forms by a specified deadline to access the settlement benefits.
