On May 6, 2024, the Port of São Francisco do Sul suffered a cyber attack that led to the encryption of some of its data. In response, the port’s IT team, along with support from external service providers, temporarily deactivated systems to contain the spread of the attack. By May 7, partial system functionality was restored, enabling the port to resume full operations in less than 24 hours. This swift recovery minimized operational disruptions and ensured the port’s continued functionality.
Despite the rapid restoration of services, the Port of São Francisco do Sul is still investigating the full extent of the data affected by the cyber attack. Access control and security systems, including automatic license plate reading, biometrics, and CCTV, are being gradually reestablished to ensure comprehensive security. The port has communicated the incident to the Federal Revenue, which has approved the resumption of operations with reinforced contingency measures.
Additionally, the cyber incident has been reported to the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) and the National Data Protection Authority, adhering to regulatory requirements. The port’s proactive measures and transparent communication with authorities demonstrate its commitment to security and operational integrity. As the investigation continues, the port remains focused on reinforcing its cyber defenses and maintaining robust security protocols to prevent future incidents.
