PME of Ohio, Inc. (PME) has recently announced a significant security breach involving unauthorized access to their employee email accounts, which occurred between November 15, 2023, and December 6, 2023. During this period, cyber intruders managed to infiltrate and extract sensitive data housed within the email systems. A comprehensive review of the impacted data was conducted to ascertain the extent of the breach, which revealed that personal information such as names, dates of birth, financial account numbers, driver’s license numbers, and limited medical information was compromised.
In response to the incident, PME has taken proactive steps to mitigate the impact on those affected. Starting April 12, 2024, the company began dispatching notification letters to individuals whose information may have been involved in the cybersecurity incident. These letters not only inform the recipients about the breach but also provide guidance on measures they can take to protect their personal information further.
Additionally, PME is offering affected individuals a complimentary one-year membership to Experian’s IdentityWorks. This service provides credit monitoring and identity theft protection, helping to detect possible misuse of personal information and offering support to address identity theft issues. The aim is to provide peace of mind and substantial protective measures to prevent any further damage arising from the breach.
PME also encourages all individuals to stay vigilant by regularly reviewing their account statements and credit reports for any unauthorized activity. Should any suspicious activity be detected, they are advised to immediately contact the relevant credit bureau to report the activity. This incident underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and the need for continuous monitoring and immediate response to security threats to protect sensitive personal information.
