Pink Drainer, a notorious crypto-wallet draining kit, has surprised the crypto community by announcing its retirement on Telegram after achieving its goal of stealing over $85 million in crypto assets. The developer behind the encrypted messaging service channel, known as Pink, declined to comment further, simply saying, “Bye,” before deleting the entire Telegram chat record.
CryptoSleuth ZachXBT shared a screenshot of the final announcement from the Pink Drainer Telegram channel, confirming the shutdown after pilfering over $75 million. PeckShieldAlert also corroborated the shutdown, revealing that Pink Drainer addresses had staked up to 18.1 million Dai into Spark, making up around 1.35% of the total sDAI tokens.
Since July 2023, over $85 million has been stolen from more than 21,100 victims using Pink Drainer, according to data from Dune Analytics. The Pink Drainer Telegram channel has undergone a rebranding to “Bonadifier,” featuring an image of Bonad, a character with a mental disability, along with a poignant message reminding victims of their losses.
While the shutdown of Pink Drainer may offer temporary relief, other drainer services like Angel Drainer continue to pose threats to crypto users. In February, Angel Drainer targeted users with a malicious Safe Vault contract, siphoning over $400,000 from 128 crypto wallets, underscoring the ongoing challenges in combating crypto theft.
