Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV) has announced a data breach that occurred more than six months ago, potentially resulting in the theft of staff data.
Furthermore, the breach, which involved unauthorized activity on internal IT systems, took place around December 23 of the previous year. PBV, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, acknowledged that personal information of current and former employees and contractors may have been compromised, including home addresses, bank account details, passwords, PIN codes, social security numbers, passport information, and medical details.
PBV promptly reported the incident to law enforcement, suspended affected systems, and initiated an investigation to determine the extent of the breach.
Additionally, to mitigate the impact of the breach, PBV has engaged the services of Kroll, a cyber and financial security firm, to monitor employees’ financial and public identities for a year at no cost.
The company has advised its employees to change any security information that may have been held by PBV. PBV, the largest privately-held bottler and distributor of PepsiCo’s beverage brands in North America, operates 19 facilities across the United States.
In a separate incident, Coca-Cola FEMSA, headquartered in Mexico, confirmed experiencing a cyber security incident but did not disclose any specific impacts on its operations or whether sensitive data belonging to the company or its customers was compromised.
