Pembina Trails School Division Hit by Breach

Canada’s Pembina Trails School Division is currently grappling with a cybersecurity incident that has caused disruptions to its network systems. The breach was first identified on Monday, December 2, when the tech team detected unusual activity within the division’s network. In response, immediate measures were taken to address the issue, including working with a specialized cybersecurity management firm to assess and mitigate the situation. The division is now focused on restoring its services while continuing to investigate the full scope and impact of the incident.

The cybersecurity incident has led to several disruptions, notably causing a significant outage to the division’s phone system. While most of the phone lines have been successfully restored, one line is still facing issues. Superintendent Shelley Amos confirmed that the division is doing everything possible to rectify the situation and bring all services back online as quickly as possible. She assured the public that all classes would continue as scheduled, despite the ongoing technical challenges.

In the wake of the incident, the division has urged staff and students to remain vigilant. Superintendent Amos emphasized the importance of caution, advising everyone to be mindful of any unusual activity on the network. She specifically warned against opening unfamiliar links or responding to suspicious or unsolicited messages. Those encountering suspicious activity are encouraged to report it promptly to their immediate supervisors to ensure that any potential threats are handled swiftly.

Pembina Trails School Division has been proactive in addressing the cybersecurity breach, taking steps to understand the full extent of the situation. With the assistance of external cybersecurity experts, the division is working diligently to secure its systems and prevent future incidents. While the exact nature of the attack is still under investigation, the focus remains on restoring normal operations as swiftly as possible and ensuring the safety and security of all users within the division’s network.
