On August 12, 2024, Park Dental, also known as PDG, P.A., submitted a notice of data breach to the Attorney General of Massachusetts following unauthorized activity detected within its email environment. The notice revealed that an unauthorized party gained access to sensitive consumer information, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, and payment card details. Following the breach, Park Dental initiated a thorough investigation and began issuing data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information may have been affected.

The breach was first identified on January 23, 2024, when suspicious activity was detected within several employee email accounts. In response to the alarming signs, Park Dental took immediate action by securing the compromised accounts and collaborating with third-party data security specialists to investigate the incident. The investigation confirmed that unauthorized access had occurred between January 11 and January 23, during which confidential patient information, including emails and attachments, was accessed.

Upon learning about the breach, Park Dental conducted a comprehensive review of the compromised files to determine the extent of the data leak and identify the affected consumers. The nature of the compromised information varied for each individual, with some reports indicating exposure of critical data such as Social Security numbers and financial account details. In light of these findings, Park Dental took proactive measures to send out data breach letters to affected individuals, providing them with details about the specific information that had been compromised.

Founded in 1972, Park Dental is a dental care provider based in Roseville, Minnesota, offering a broad range of dental services that include routine preventative care, restorative services, and cosmetic procedures. The company employs more than 25 people and generates approximately $35 million in annual revenue. In response to this incident, Park Dental is not only focused on addressing the immediate concerns related to the data breach but is also committed to reviewing and enhancing its cybersecurity protocols to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
