Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare Data Breach

Over 80% of US Small Businesses Breached

Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare recently announced a data breach involving sensitive personal and health information. The breach was identified on May 15, 2024, after disruptions were detected in its IT systems, prompting an immediate investigation. The investigation revealed that unauthorized access to personal information may have occurred between May 13 and May 15, exposing data such as names, Social Security numbers, medical information, and health insurance details.

In response to the breach, Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare promptly posted a notice on its website and began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on August 23, 2024. Additionally, the organization reported the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The breach notice specified the types of sensitive information potentially compromised and outlined plans to offer complimentary identity monitoring services to those impacted.

Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare, a mental healthcare provider based in Washington, has been serving its community since 2002. The organization offers various services, including crisis response, counseling, substance use disorder prevention, and telehealth options, catering to residents across Okanogan County and surrounding areas. Headquartered in Omak, Washington, OBHC employs over 50 individuals dedicated to providing essential mental health support.

The ongoing commitment to safeguarding patient information remains a priority for Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare as it addresses the ramifications of this incident. The organization’s proactive steps aim to enhance its security measures and restore trust among its clients and the community it serves. OBHC continues to monitor the situation closely while working to prevent future breaches.
