NTT West President Masaaki Mori announced his resignation following the unauthorized leak of more than 9 million pieces of personal information by a former temporary employee of NTT Business Solutions, a subsidiary. The breach, spanning almost a decade until February last year, involved a call center system, affecting 69 local governments and companies. President Mori, citing social responsibility, expressed deep regret and disclosed his intention to retire at the end of March. The incident has exposed flaws in past investigations, leading to a commitment to discipline involved officers and employees.
Additionally, NTT West revealed a previous complaint about customer information leakage in another subsidiary, indicating a broader issue. An internal investigation, marred by inappropriate responses and alterations of logs, failed to prevent further damage. The company now plans to invest approximately 10 billion yen over three years to enhance its security systems. Legal actions against the former temporary employee are underway, highlighting the severity of the breach and the necessity for rigorous preventive measures to restore trust.
