The Nigerian National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has identified five websites that allegedly collect personal data from Nigerians without proper authorization. These flagged sites—idfinder.com.ng, Verify.Ng, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com—are suspected of being involved in scams that could compromise user information. NIMC’s spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, has warned the public to avoid these sites due to potential data theft risks.
The concerns come after Paradigm Initiative highlighted the issue of some websites selling sensitive personal information, such as National Identification Numbers (NIN), Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), and International Passports, for as little as ₦100. This unauthorized sale of data poses serious risks, including identity theft, financial fraud, and threats to national security from potential misuse by criminals.
In response, NIMC reassures Nigerians that their data remains secure and has not been compromised. The Commission emphasizes that only authorized partners are permitted to verify NINs and is actively working with security agencies to address the problem. Legal actions will be taken against the perpetrators to safeguard personal information.
NIMC urges the public to stay vigilant and avoid using unauthorized websites for data verification. The Commission is committed to ensuring the safety of Nigerians’ personal information and is enhancing security measures to prevent further breaches.
