The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has added two new vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, based on evidence of active exploitation.
Furthermore, the first vulnerability, CVE-2023-20963, is an Android Framework Privilege Escalation Vulnerability, while the second vulnerability, CVE-2023-29492, is a Novi Survey Insecure Deserialization Vulnerability. These types of vulnerabilities are frequently used by malicious cyber actors and pose significant risks to the federal enterprise.
Additionally. the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog was established as a living list of known Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) that carry significant risk to the federal enterprise, as part of the Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 22-01: Reducing the Significant Risk of Known Exploited Vulnerabilities.
At the same time, BOD 22-01 requires Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies to remediate identified vulnerabilities by the due date to protect FCEB networks against active threats. The catalog is regularly updated by CISA to include new vulnerabilities that meet the specified criteria.
Although BOD 22-01 only applies to FCEB agencies, CISA strongly urges all organizations to prioritize timely remediation of catalog vulnerabilities as part of their vulnerability management practice. This will help reduce the exposure of all organizations to cyberattacks.
CISA will continue to add vulnerabilities to the catalog that meet the specified criteria, ensuring that organizations have access to the most up-to-date information to protect their networks.
Organizations are encouraged to regularly review the catalog and implement remediation strategies as needed to protect their systems from potential cyber threats.
