New England Wooden Ware Reports Data Breach

New England Wooden Ware Corporation (NEWW) reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Vermont, revealing that sensitive personal information stored within its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized actor. The breach occurred around April 5, 2024, when NEWW identified unusual activity in its computer environment. In response, the company immediately launched an investigation to understand the nature and scope of the incident, which was found to involve the potential compromise of various types of sensitive data.

NEWW’s investigation revealed that personal data, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information, may have been exposed in the breach. The company began reviewing the impacted data to identify specific individuals who may have been affected by the unauthorized access. This process also allowed NEWW to determine which types of personal information were most likely accessed, ensuring that they could communicate the breach details clearly to those impacted.

On September 3, 2024, NEWW began notifying affected individuals through data breach notification letters, informing them about the compromised information. Along with the details of the exposed data, NEWW is providing complimentary credit monitoring services to those affected. The company has taken these steps to mitigate the potential risks of identity theft and fraud resulting from the breach, showing its commitment to addressing the issue and protecting the affected individuals.

Founded in 1834, New England Wooden Ware is a family-owned company based in Gardner, Massachusetts, specializing in corrugated packaging and a variety of related services. NEWW’s customers span industries such as biomedical, food and beverage, consumer goods, and e-commerce. The company employs over 50 people and has a long history of providing specialized packaging solutions, including custom designs and testing services. Despite the breach, NEWW continues its operations and aims to maintain transparency with its clients and employees.
