New Cyber Forensics Facility Launched in NSW

The New South Wales (NSW) government has unveiled plans for a cutting-edge cyber forensics facility to be established by CBIT Digital Forensics Services (CDFS) in the South Jerrabomberra Regional Jobs Precinct, Australia. This initiative, backed by an investment of $11.7 million, aims to bolster local employment while providing advanced training in cyber and digital forensics. Set to be completed by March 2025, the facility will play a crucial role in equipping professionals with the necessary skills to combat cyber threats and enhance digital security in an increasingly complex technological landscape.

NSW Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty, highlighted the significance of the project, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering regional communities through skill development and job creation. The establishment of the NANGU Cyber Forensics Facility aligns with the broader strategy to create sustainable business hubs that can attract and retain highly skilled workers. By offering fast-tracked planning approvals and proximity to key decision-makers in Canberra, the precinct aims to provide a conducive environment for investors and businesses in modern industries.

CDFS CEO Zoran Iliev expressed gratitude for the opportunity to build the facility on land traditionally owned by the Ngunnawal people, acknowledging the cultural significance of the location. Iliev emphasized that the NANGU Cyber Forensics Facility will not only serve as a center for technological advancement but also as a preserver of Indigenous traditions. The training provided at the facility will empower forensic scientists to become custodians of both truth and the rich cultural heritage of the Ngunnawal people.

As regional areas like Jerrabomberra, Tralee, and Googong experience rapid growth, this investment in cyber security and other specialized industries will foster a competitive workforce in NSW. By focusing on modern sectors such as cyber security, space, and artificial intelligence, the government aims to create sustainable job opportunities and attract talent to the region. The establishment of the NANGU Cyber Forensics Facility marks a significant step towards enhancing regional capabilities in digital forensics and ensuring that local communities thrive in an evolving digital economy.
