Salvagnini’s appointment is also in line with President Joe Biden‘s Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of AI. As chief AI officer, Salvagnini will continue NASA’s collaboration with other government agencies, academic institutions, industry partners, and AI experts to ensure the agency remains at the cutting edge of AI technology.
Before joining NASA in June 2023, Salvagnini spent over two decades in technology leadership roles within the intelligence community, including at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. His extensive experience in technology and data management positions him well to lead NASA’s AI initiatives. This appointment marks a pivotal moment for NASA as it integrates advanced AI technologies to further its mission of space exploration and scientific discovery.
