Nantes Métropole Website Hit by Cyberattack

The Nantes Métropole website experienced a cyberattack on September 2, 2024, rendering it inaccessible throughout most of the day. According to the community, the attack began in the morning and persisted until approximately 9:30 p.m. This disruption was attributed to a traffic saturation tactic commonly used in cyber incidents. Despite the website’s downtime, Nantes Métropole assured the public that no data had been stolen.

The National Agency for the Security of Information Systems reported that this attack also affected other websites across France. Local teams worked diligently to restore the site, demonstrating the increasing need for robust cybersecurity measures. The event highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by public institutions in the digital age and their reliance on secure IT infrastructure to maintain operations.

By the evening, at around 7:30 p.m., the situation began improving, and the website was partially accessible. Full functionality was restored later in the evening. The swift response from the local teams and cybersecurity experts minimized potential risks and reassured the public about the safety of their data.

This incident reflects the growing trend of cyberattacks targeting municipalities and public services across France. It underscores the importance of heightened vigilance and collaboration among national and local cybersecurity agencies to counter evolving threats effectively. Such measures are crucial to maintaining public trust and ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services.
