MWI Veterinary Supply Hit With Breach

MWI Veterinary Supply, Inc. has reported a significant data security incident affecting the personal information of its current and former employees, their dependents, and individuals associated with customers. On September 30, 2024, MWI confirmed that unauthorized access had occurred within its systems, potentially exposing sensitive information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical insurance details, and financial data. While the company has stated that there is no evidence of public disclosure or misuse of this information, it remains committed to transparency and the protection of its stakeholders.

Upon discovering the breach, MWI immediately initiated containment measures and launched a comprehensive investigation with the assistance of law enforcement and cybersecurity experts. This investigation focused on assessing the extent of the breach and determining the compromised data. MWI emphasized that reinforcing its systems and information security protocols is a top priority to prevent future incidents. The company is taking proactive steps to ensure that its systems are secure and that similar breaches do not occur in the future.

In response to the breach, MWI is offering affected individuals complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorksSM credit monitoring and remediation services for a duration of 24 months. This service aims to help individuals safeguard their personal information and mitigate any potential risks resulting from the incident. Affected parties are encouraged to enroll in these services by visiting the Experian website and using a unique code provided by MWI. The company has set a deadline of January 31, 2025, for enrollment, underlining the urgency of protecting one’s identity in the wake of such incidents.

MWI is advising all affected individuals to remain vigilant in monitoring their financial accounts and statements for any suspicious activity. The company recommends reviewing bank and credit card statements closely and promptly reporting any unauthorized transactions. Additionally, MWI has provided a reference guide with further steps individuals can take to protect themselves, such as placing fraud alerts on credit files and contacting the appropriate credit bureaus. MWI assures its stakeholders that it takes this matter seriously and is dedicated to maintaining the integrity and security of their personal information.
