MSH International Canada, responsible for insuring members of the Public Service Health Care Plan traveling abroad, has reported a recent cybersecurity incident detected on February 9th. As a precautionary measure, the company promptly halted its services and engaged in a comprehensive investigation, involving law enforcement, to ascertain the scope of the breach.

The insurance provider has yet to determine the extent of information accessed during the security breach, highlighting concerns about potential exposure of personal data. MSH International Canada assures affected individuals that if their personal information was compromised, they will be promptly notified as part of the ongoing investigation.

Consequently, operational disruptions are evident, with certain systems offline, leading to delays in claims processing and the inability of members to access their MSH member portal. Despite these challenges, MSH’s contact center remains accessible via phone, providing essential support to affected members while efforts to restore services and investigate the incident continue.

Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, underscores the severity of cyber threats faced by both public and private entities, emphasizing the need for swift action and heightened cybersecurity measures. She calls for diligent investigations by Canada Life and MSH to identify the root cause of the incident and restore services promptly and securely, ensuring affected individuals regain access to their benefits without undue delay.
