Cybersecurity firm Emsisoft reports that the file transfer service MOVEit has impacted 2,620 organizations and 77.2 million individuals since May, following a cyberattack claimed by the Russian-linked ransomware group Clop on June 6. The United States bears the brunt of the impact, with 78.1% of affected organizations, followed by Canada (14%), Germany (1.4%), and the UK (0.8%).

The education sector is the hardest hit, accounting for 40.6% of affected organizations, trailed by health (19.2%) and finance and professional services (12.1%). Noteworthy entities affected include Avast, whose low-risk customer information was compromised, impacting three million individual customers, and other prominent organizations like British Airways and Shell Oil.

The extensive fallout of the MOVEit cyberattack is evident as Emsisoft discloses the wide-ranging impact on 2,620 organizations and 77.2 million individuals since May. The majority of the affected entities are based in the United States, reflecting the severity of the attack, with Canada, Germany, and the UK also facing notable impacts.

Educational institutions are disproportionately targeted, making up 40.6% of affected organizations, while the health and finance sectors are also significantly impacted. Among the casualties is cybersecurity major Avast, which saw the compromise of low-risk customer personal information, affecting three million individual customers.
