Microsoft’s London AI Hub

Mustafa Suleyman, former co-founder of Google DeepMind, has unveiled plans for a new Microsoft AI office in London, following his recent appointment as head of Microsoft’s AI division. The new hub aims to pioneer advancements in language models and infrastructure, as well as develop top-tier tooling for foundational models. Collaborating closely with Microsoft’s AI teams and partners like OpenAI, the London office, led by AI scientist Jordan Hoffman, seeks to tap into the UK’s vast pool of AI talent for long-term investment and recruitment.

Suleyman, a UK native, emphasizes Microsoft’s commitment to hiring exceptional AI scientists and engineers in the region, signaling a strategic move to tackle complex AI challenges. With job postings underway, the focus will be on addressing the most intriguing AI inquiries of our era. This initiative not only highlights Microsoft’s dedication to fostering innovation but also reinforces London’s status as a global AI hub, enhancing the city’s prominence in AI development and research.

Co-founding DeepMind in 2010, Suleyman played a pivotal role in establishing the London-based AI company, later acquired by Google. Departing from Google in 2022, he subsequently co-founded Inflection before joining Microsoft earlier this year. This trajectory underscores Suleyman’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI research and development, now within the framework of Microsoft’s AI division.
